The last 24 hours has been a busy one with many calls and 3 fires. The first fire came Wednesday, January 2nd just before 1600 hours when Rescue Squad 8 was dispatched for an apartment fire in District Heights (26) at 6553 Pennsylvania Ave. Units arrived on the scene with fire on the second floor of a garden apartment building. Squad 8 arrived and performed a search and and checked for extension. The fire was knocked down and Squad 8 cleared in under 2 hours.
The Second fire came Thursday morning when Squad 8 was dispatched to District Heights (26) again just after 0800 hours for a townhouse on fire at 1424 Karen Blvd. Squad 8 and Engine 261 arrived together to find a working fire in a townhouse. Squad 8 again performed a search of the house, which was negative, and assisted Engine 261 in checking for extension. Squad 8 cleared at about 0930.
The Third fire came about 1530 hours on Thursday when Engine 83 responded with units for a commercial building fire at 601 Eastern Ave. in Chapel Oaks (38). Chief 38A arrived on scene and reported a working fire. Engine 83 arrived with Engine 382 and assisted with stretching a line. The fire was in the roof area due to a malfunctioning A/C unit. The fire was located and knocked down with extensive overhaul. Engine 83 cleared in just over an hour.
