a few short weeks of being back and in service, the squad gives out again. The
generator still wasnt fixed and our other continuous problem, the transmission,
decided it was tired of working again as happens every few months. So after
briefly thinking it may just be out for a week or two, now it seems they are
going to get rid of the retarder and install a jake brake which hopefully will
help. Time frame on this project......no idea but hopefully will fix it for
the final time. We guess after more than 52,000 runs and well over 100,000 miles,

- Station 8 was kept busy Sunday responding to over 35 calls for help in the
area, almost 20 of them being for Ambulance 88. While returning from PG Hospital
on one of those runs, Ambulance 88 met DCFD E27 (Deanwood) on Eastern Ave at
Nash ST NE where a motorcycle accident had just occurred. Apparently the person
had fallen off of his bike or had hit someone else and then was run over by
a car. Ambulance 88 along with E27 began assessing the patient and discovered
numerous injuries including severe road rash, a broken leg, and extreme rigidity
and bruising to the abdomen and chest area. As crews were just about done stabilizing
the patient, DC Medic 15 arrived and assumed patient care transporting him to
a local trauma center. Ambulance 88 cleared the scene in about 20 minutes just
to be sent to the Bowie area of PG County where they transported a patient to
Bowie Health Center answering the question asked by many..."What are you
all doing out here?"..ahhh yes, a question we were asking ourselves. Just
proving that no matter where the call is..from DC to Bowie..more than likely
you'll see Seat Pleasant.

Hurricane Isabel kept crews busy for several days with numerous trees down,
wire fires, damaged structures, and flooding. Seat Pleasant responded to 96
calls for help Thursday during the storm and on Friday. Company 8 lost power
early on in the storm and for days operated by flashlight, manually operated
bay doors, portable radios, and no station alerting system. Eventually, the
portable generated was started and a cord run to the TV so that we could keep
from going crazy and enjoy some football Saturday and Sunday between runs. About
1630 hours on Sunday, Company 8 had its power restored, and it never felt so
good. Thanks to all the power companies and crews that were brought in from
surrounding states to restore power to the millions of people that were left
in the dark by Isabel. Also
a big thanks to the crews, volunteer and career, that stayed at Company 8 for
days and were basically run ragged by the neverending list of calls.
This is what the firehouse looked like for 3 straight
nights...Complete darkness.

that will be taken care of. The Squad had new tools mounted enabling members
to run at least two tools at once (what a concept) without having to disconnect.

so that everything was flawless and went to perfection, from coordinating the
parade route to the comments made by Chief Riley that pegged Brian to a 'T'
and made us all reminisce of all the great times and the way Brian touched all
of our lives. There wasnt a dry eye in the church when Brians brother, Brandon,
gave a few words to remember his brother and ours. Everyone proceeded to the
cemetary where Brian was finally laid to rest. Farewell "B", you will
always be in our hearts and thoughts as well as loved and missed dearly.

announce the tragic and untimely passing of Volunteer Firefighter Brian Jones.
Brian devoted over 6 years of his time here at Seat Pleasant and was a valuable
family member to our operation, especially when we were 100% volunteer. Your
countless hours spent here driving and making sure we kept the Seat Pleasant
tradition is to be commended and never forgotten. Although Brian was currently
a member at Kentland 33, he was and always will be part of the Seat Pleasant
family. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family as they try to deal and
come to terms with his death. Our condolences go out to the officers and members
of Company 33 as they knew and enjoyed Brian as we did, and are equally saddened

1st - Homicide in Seat Pleasant - While Ambulance 88 was in Bowie running
calls for some unexplained reason, Squad 8 was dispatched to the 5700 blk of
Gladstone Way, in Seat Pleasant, at 1543 hours to check on the welfare of a
citizen who had not been seen in a few days. Upon arriving, Squad 8 entered
the house and discovered the body of a woman in the living room. The personnel
checked the body for signs of a pulse and breathing carefully as not to disturb
