VOLUNTEERS WANTED

Tired of your fire department not running enough fire? trauma ? or calls in general ? Does sitting around the firehouse all day flipping through tv channels hoping to run just 1 or 2 calls sound like a profitable day ? Is the quiet serenity of the outside world and neighborhood around your station just the pits ? Do you enjoy a lack of sleep ? Well you're in luck then !!! The Seat Pleasant Volunteer Fire Company is looking for experienced firefighters and EMT's to join us. If you have training and are already a member of a department within the county, state, or even the good ol US of A and can dedicate a day or two a week or even a few weekends a month let us know, we'd love to hear from you. Click HERE for info on membership or HERE for info on a ride along. Stay safe and see you soon.

The County Fire Department has stopped the ability to have all hall rentals at the firehouse to supplement any fundraising the volunteers may need. In addition, all boot drives have also been deemed "illegal" and our budget from the county has virtually been cut in half. Times are tough for everyone in these terrible economic times, but keep us in mind if the ability to donate comes up. Thank you for your continued support.

HALLOWEEN 2008 - Well although the day didnt start the way we would have liked (see below post), it was an eventful day none the less. The day was steady and as day turned to night things started to pick up. The company was kept busy, nothing noteworthy though, with accidents, some boxes, and of course assaults. The company took in 32 runs for the day as the the local youngsters participated in some trick or treating fun in the neighborhoods. We wish everyone a safe Halloween and be careful out there.

The crew from 83 eventually found a separate entrance in the rear and made their way to the seat of the fire extinguishing it as the truck companies opened the roof and conditions improved. September 1st - Summer comes to an unofficial end in Seat Pleasant - Well today is Labor Day, the unofficial end of summer, and what better way to spend it then working on projects around the station and enjoying a big meal together. In addition, the Squad crew participated in a drill (after spending part of the afternoon in Oxon Hill on a transfer with A88), personnel finished up some drivers training for a few people on the ambulance, and then all 13 people staffing the station for the day were treated to some food in the afternoon which included the usual cook out fair (burgers, dogs, potato salad, chips, etc). Oh, and we ran some calls too including a first due house on Seat Pleasant Dr which was a small fire on the porch and the Ambulance ran a victim who was hit by a car on the Beltway near Landover Rd after trying to cross it (not a good idea). Ambulance 88 and Medic 30 transported the victim with multiple traumatic injuries to a local trauma center. July 30th - Squad 8, Ambulance 88, Chief 8 & 8A take in haunted house on fire - That's right folks, at the station where just about anything can and will happen, Squad 8, Chief 8 (McGill) and Chief 8A (Mehaffey) were dispatched about 1843 hours to the Six Flags Amusement Park, in Company 43's area, for the haunted house on fire. Thinking it probably wasnt much or was just kids playing, members changed their minds as a large column of smoke could be seen while heading east on Central Ave. Units from 8 arrived and made their way through the park as the engine companies searched for ways to establish a water supply as they had heavy fire throughout the "Frightorium Haunted House" which is used every October for Six Flags Fright Fest. Ambulance 88 was dispatched on the working fire dispatch as a 2nd BLS unit as crews were going to need some rehab due to high temperatures and humidity. Squad 8's crew along with Chief 8A were assigned to the rear along with 18 and 33 who were manning handlines extinguishing what fire they could as the C/D corner had collapsed. Chief 8 was given side A and directed crews in extinguishing fire from that side. After about 20 or so minutes, everything was open and the bulk of the fire was out. After a short break and drinking some fluids, Squad 8 went back to work inside overhauling some of the rooms and removing parts of the tin roof that had collapsed. Units from 8 returned to service in about 2 1/2 hours. The cause was determined to be electrical and caused $2 million dollars in damage.
