Sunday, May 27, 2012  Around 0530 units alerted to Ritchie Rd and Forest Park Dr, in Company 37's area, for an accident. E37 arrived and found a vehicle which had struck a bridge with a person trapped and requested the rest of the assignment. Normally this assignment would have brought Squad 8 but as has been the case many times over the last year since the county disbanded it, people waited on a unit further away. Engine 8 was alerted to the call though to assist with a landing zone at a nearby school. The patient was extricated and taken to a local trauma center. Engine 8 cleared a short time later.  Then around 2200 hours, Engine 8 responded to the 6400-blk of Central Ave, by the Addison Rd Metro, for a pedestrian struck.  The crew found a person who had been struck by a vehicle suffering from numerous traumatic injuries.  The patient was treated and loaded into arriving EMS units and then transported to a local trauma center in critical condition.  Engine 8 cleared in about 35 minutes after picking personnel up from the hospital after assisting with the transport.
