As temperatures remained in 100's the last 2 days, it was inevitable that a cold front would produce some severe storms. Around 2000 hours, it hit. The storm produced a phenomena known as a microburst which tore apart buildings and uprooted trees in a relatively small area primarily in the Bladensburg, Cheverly, Hyattsville areas with outlying damage in the Landover, Landover Hills, and Fairmount Heights area. Engine 82 and Chief 8A were kept busy for a little over an hour running trees on houses, searching vehicles under fallen trees, wires, and even an accident where a tree fell on a car. Fortunately there were no injuries in any of our incidents.
