Company runs stabbing followed by extrication

Saturday, August 18, 2012 On Friday the 17th just before midnight Engine 83 and Ambulance 88 were alerted to the 6200 Blk of Baltic St, in Seat Pleasant, for a stabbing.  While enroute it was reported that there was a large group and people were possibly armed with guns as well.  Units arrived after police secured the scene and found a single patient suffering from a serious stab wound.  The patient was treated and taken to a local trauma center by A88 and the ALS unit.  Engine 83 returned in about 15 minutes and the Ambulance in 2 hours. Then on the 18th about 30 minutes after the ambulance returned to service, both units were on the road again just a few blocks from the firehouse to Addison Rd & Drylog St for an accident.  Soon after dispatch the call was upgraded to an accident with people trapped as police were on the scene confirming this.  Units from 8 arrived and found 4 patients with 1 trapped and established command.  While the crew from Ambulance 88 began treating and triaging patients, the crew from E8 pulled a protective handline and then went to work using various hand tools and a hydra ram to attempt to extricate the victim as the closest squad was coming from a distance. This of course is because the county deemed a squad at Seat Pleasant no longer necessary just over a year ago. After a few minutes of work the patient was able to be freed and the crew along with 3 additional EMS units worked to remove the patients.  In all 4 patients were taken to various hospitals and trauma centers.  Engine 83 cleared in about 45 minutes and the ambulance in just over an hour.
