Engine 82 runs extrication, has to wait on squad again

Monday, September 10, 2012 At 1655 hours Engine 82 was alerted to Southern Ave & East Capitol St, in Company 5's area, for an accident with a vehicle overturned and a person trapped.  Engine 82 arrived along with E30 from DCFD to find the accident on Southern Ave and confirmed one trapped.  The assignment from PG included Squad 6 from Springdale and the DC assignment included Squad 3 from Southeast DC.  It was determined that although Squad 3 was still a distance it was much closer than Squad 6 and the PG Squad was placed in service.  Squad 3 arrived and extricated the patient, who had their arm trapped under the vehicle, in about 25 minutes and then was loaded into an EMS unit and taken to a local trauma center.  Engine 82 picked up and returned to service in about 40 minutes.  Once again the removal of Squad 8 because it is "not needed" delayed services to a citizen in need.
